Visit to Sanyu Babies Home

Playing with the babies in the babies home.

This was Lydia's "bed" when she was a baby in the home.

One of the "Mama's" who works in the Babies Home and was with Lydia.

We had a good visit. Lydia understood where we were and what we were doing there. Abijah loved all the tiny babies and wanted to stay and carry them all day.

Stepping Out

David preached a wonderful sermon on Sunday. Motivating and life changing. His text was taken from Luke 10:1-4. Jesus is sending out the 72 to go before him and said he is sending them like sheep before wolves. David's point was that when God has called us to do something we need to go and do it. In these verses Jesus also is telling them not to bother with taking anything with them, ex. money, clothes, sandals. That means that God will take care of you where he has called you to go and do.

So what was this meaning to me? For a few weeks now God has been laying on my heart again his call on my life. I am a mother and I love being a mother. It is the hardest thing that I have ever done, but also the most rewarding.

On Friday of last week, we took Lydia to the Babies Home where we got her from. They had called and wanted to check up on her and we get the paper work for the final adoption. We are now going to connect with a probation officer and have to go to the courts. For those of you who do not know, Lydia has not been such an easy child. She has a lot of emotional problems and we have had to work though so many things. That is why many people will not understand what is happening in my heart.

God has called me to help abandoned babies. If I could, I would have a whole house full of babies. And yet, I have thought that with all the struggles that we have had with Lydia that I could not pursue what God has called me to. My heart has become so heavy with the burden of these babies who are thrown away. And yes, here in Uganda this is a very real and daily problem. So we are branching out. Many of you will not understand this and think that I am mad and loosing my mind, but I have to do what God has called me to. I know that at this point I can't open a Babies Home as I do not have the resources, but we can help one at a time. We are looking at getting a girl as we have all that is needed for a girl. We have talked openly about this as a family and everyone is excited and in agreement. I am asking for prayers as we step out and add on to our family. Even if you are not understanding why we are doing this, I ask for your support and know that we are helping a life to survive.

I am back

Wow, did not realize that it has been from January that I have not written here. Guess i am really out of the loop. I can say that this has been the hardest year of living in Uganda. We have had more sickness in the family, financially problems and a withdrawal of support, and I have felt so alone. Some of this I know is my fault as I have not been in touch with many people. So here I am back to let you all know what is happening and to hopefully get some encouragement and support.

Now with so many thoughts going in my head, I don't know where to start. This month of October is going to continue to be complicated and difficult. Our house rent has increased to an amount that we can't continue with and that means that we are going to have to move. We will have to go to a small apartment of one to two bedroom. This is going to be a very hard adjustment, but we are making the choice to have a good attitude and trust God in all of it.

One positive thing is that we have bought land last month. This is such a big achievement for the ministry. We are looking forward to how just this simple this is going to prosper the school as well as the church. But Satan has not given us a moments peace from the time we purchased that land. David had an accident over 2 weeks ago when he was coming home from an overnight prayer meeting. The motorbike that he was riding on hit a pothole and tipped. He was okay, just a few scratched and bruises. However from that time, sickness has been steady in this house. There are these puss wounds that have effected both of my hands and a toe, and Abijah has had a huge one on her knee. Then I have had this terrible cold and a swollen throat for about a week now. Starting to get better now.

So I think that I am going to leave it at that for today and see about what can come tomorrow.
love you all

PLEs

We have had such good news this week. All 6 of our students passed in Second Grade in the Primary Leaving Exam (PLE) that took place in the beginning of November 2011. This was our first year as a school to sit for PLE and we are so pleased with the outcome.

For all of you who are not knowing about the PLEs here is a bit of information. PLE is as the name indicates, an exam that is done as a student is leaving Primary and moving on to Secondary. This is a very important document that a person carries with them for life and helps to direct the course of future studies. There are six positions that you can be placed in depending on the score in the four subjects that are tested, Math, Science, Social Studies, English. First Grade is the best, which would be like getting an A. Second grade is next, like a B. Third grade is like a C and Fourth Grade is a D. Then Fifth and Sixth Grades are failures.

So our students all scored in the Second Grade. Vibia missed the First Grade by one point. Ruth and Hamidu were two points away from a First Grade. Juliet was only three point away from a First Grade. Betty scored in the middle of the Second Grade. Rogers was at the bottom of a Second Grade, but he made it.

We are so proud of these students and are overjoyed at the outcome of these results. This is going to reflect very well on us as a school and help more parents to trust us with their children. Thank you to all of you for your prayers and support for the school at large.

Jan 18th

Crazy to think that it has been more than one week and we have been back in Uganda. There is so much that has been happening that it feels like it has been a month. We were so glad to find our house and the church still standing. Many repairs are needed at school in the next week and a half before it begins, like the fence in the front is falling down and setting up the class rooms. Church attendance is a bit low, but we are believing that it will pick up as soon as the holiday is over.

It is so great to be at home. The girls are just loving having all their toys back and be able to dig in the dirt. Keeping them clean is the hardest thing to try to do. Good thing that they can just get thrown in the bath and be clean again. Keziah is almost ready to crawl and it has been so much fun to see her change and move more everyday. Abijah and Lydia are looking forward to school on the 30th. Abijah says that she wants to go to school so that she can learn to write. Great ambitions.

Today David started the teachers seminar at school. We are needing to hire some new teachers this year as some left towards the end of last year. Primary 7 Leaving Exams came out today on the District level. It will just be a few days and we will know how our students did. We are excited to know that.

As for me, I have just been trying to move back in and get comfortable again. Also just trying to keep up on the laundry as there has been a water shortage and catching when the power is on too. Still have many bags to unpack, but that is going to have to wait for awhile.

There has been a lot of stress and pressure as we have come back. Been focusing so much on how God has always been faithful and trusting that he will continue. Also know that He will not give us more than we can handle.  Keep us in your prayers, especially for finances to be enough to meet our needs. Thanks a lots.

New years greetings

Kapyate News

Zep 3:17 The Lord your God is among you, as a strong saviour: he will be glad over you with joy, he will make his love new again, he will make a song of joy over you as in the time of a holy feast.

Here we are at the beginning of a new year once again and so thankful for all that we have been through in the past year and looking forward to so much in this next year.

Just a short over view of 2011 is as follows
January found us with our Mom from the States and she helped us run a Kids Camp with around 100 kids over a 3 day period.
February started out the new school year averaging 150 students from Nursery to Primary 7. Yes this is our first year having Primary 7 and that is a big step.
March met us with National election, including Presidential. Thankful the nation did not turn into chaos as the same guy has been president for 25 years and cheating was involved.
April was first term holiday of 3 weeks.
May started the second term full of excitement and joy. There was extra studies put in place for upper classes to prepare for the Primary Leaving Exam of P.7 students.
June brought lots of change as a new girl was added to our home on the 22nd. Keziah Peace Nabangi was born happy, healthy and beautiful. In this months the ministry celebrated 4 years in operating and expand in a new way by starting a branch of the church in Musajja.
July saw two teams from Hong Kong with many blessings for the ministry and the children at school. We were able to start a temperary church structure on the same land as the school and have since roofed it, just waiting to get the funding to side it.
August was second term holiday which was a good, but short rest.
September opened the third and final term of the year.
October was extra busy as both of us, David and Heather, graduated from Caris Bible College after 2 years of study.
November Primary 7 sat for the Primary Leaving Exam (PLE) on the 2nd and 3rd. We will know their results by the end of January.
December 3rd was the closing of the school year which was a grand event this year as we hired a band and marched around the community. On the same day, we as a family boarded the airplane to Minnesota for Christmas will Heather’s whole family.

Now as we head into 2012 there is so much that we are looking forward to. Abijah and Lydia will be attending Baby Class and they are excited about that. David will be busy running the school and church as well as starting a branch of the school in Masajja. Heather is wanting to take language classes to learn Luganda. Excited to see what else will happen this year.

Be in touch.
