Feb 25, 2011

Wow the past two weeks have gone by so fast and so much has happened.
We did "run away" to the village to avoid being in Kampala for the elections. We, everyone but David, left on the 12th and did not come back to Kampala till the 21st. There was a lot of talk about war with the elections for president. Thankfully there was nothing that happened, but better to be safe then sorry. We had a great time in the village though and I was able to read a book and just relax. Of course the parents were so good to us and we ate all kinds of good food.
On Tuesday the 22nd David and I began Bible College for the second year. We have changed from the night class to the day class with being pregnant it is easier in the days to attend. There are many new students for the first year, like 100 and that is a great increase. It is different going in the day and will take some adjusting.
On Wednesday was the elections for the Mayor and Local leadership. We had thought that we were getting out of Kampala for the problems of elections, only that there were more problems for the Mayor then the President. There was some rioting because one of the guys contesting for Mayor was caught "stuffing" the ballot boxes. The Electoral Commission had to cancel the Mayor elections here in Kampala till a later time. There is also talk that the government may just chose a Mayor and that will cause even more problems. Guess the election threats are not over yet. Just trying to avoid to be in town much and watching the news to see what will happen.
Kampala King's School is doing great though. We have had a number of new students enroll, but I have not yet got a final count on the numbers. I think that by next week we will be doing that so that we will know where we are standing.
I am going to work on getting pictures posted on facebook today, if I can get the camera from David for a few minutes.

Feb 11, 2011

So we have now completed the second week of school of this new year and just as we were thinking the children have started to flood in. We have had over 25 new students register and most of the old ones have also come back. It is also a waiting game as the elections are next week and many parents are keeping their children at home till that season is over. As for us we are going to the village for a week so that we are not in the city. I, Heather, will go with Abijah, Lydia, Janet and her new baby, Esther, Betty our house girl, Betty our sister, Collin, Ian, Mercy, Hope, Cindy a Rwandise student. We will basically close the school for the week so the boarding students that are there will all go to their homes. Just keep this Kampala in your prayers over the next week as we see what will happen.
In other news, we had a doctors visit on Tuesday and all is looking good with the baby. We are now 22 weeks along and starting to show much. I am going to put some pictures on facebook in the evening so be checking there and then you can see what is happening.
Also some change with church things, we have started cell groups. We are using Wednesday evenings to meet in three homes in different locations. This is so that we can keep up to date with every one and have more personal relations with people.
Well, I am out of here tomorrow for the village so I will write again in a week or so.
Love you all.

New Year

It is amazing that 2010 has gotten away without knowing it. And now into the New Year of 2011 with so much to look forward to.
First thing is that I am promising to start updates again for you all to know what is going on. I know that is something that I have been slacking in and am going to get back on track with.
One thing that we are looking forward to in this year will be an add on to the family. We are expecting a new baby by mid June and Abijah and Lydia are so excited as well as David. The first few months were difficult with lots of sickness, but things are looking up. Have been having a cough that was quite bad, then also had a bit of malaria, but am thankful that we got through it all.
Today, January 31st, was the first day of school for Primary schools. Our attendance was a bit low, but that is expected the first week of school. We have some new boarding student and still waiting for others to come.
David and I are also planning to attend the second year of Charis Bible College as well. We are just thinking of moving to day classes and leaving the night classes as evenings I am tired. Just trying to see how we will be able to pay for it, but we also know that God is in control.
Please pray for this nation of Uganda right now. We are going into the time of elections and there is a lot of threats and unknown. The current president has been in power for 25 years and he is not wanting to leave. He says that he came in by force and will only leave by force. I am planning to be in the village for the week before elections because the city will not be such a safe place during that time. We are praying for peace and a change in the nation.
Well, I think that I will stop from there today and see you before a week is over.

still alive

Hello to you all. I am not sure if people are still checking this blog because I have taken so long with out writing anything. We have been so busy and sick that it seams there is no time to even communicate. Now it is a new year and things of the holidays are calming down so I am hoping to have more time. This week we are having a VBS at our church for the first time ever and after that I need to take the time to make a real update. But until then we are all fine and will let you know the details later.

I know that I have taken long with out writing any thing here. Sorry. Here are some photos to see what has been happening.
This is our house in the village.
Finally got the roof on and we are ready to go for Christmas.
Abijah is as cute as always.

Bath time. They love the water.

Promotion day for Charis Bible College at the
Serena Hotel in Kampala. We have finished a full year now. We were also blessed by a scholarship that finished paying our school fees of 1.3 million shillings ($590).
We had a miracle the other night and mushrooms started to grow. They sure were good eating. Zach would have loved them.

So that is a bit of what is happening. We are also seeing how to rap up the end of the term and school year. There is two and a half weeks remaining. The kids are doing exams as well as learning dances for the parents day on the 4th of December.
We are also working on getting the house in order for my mom to come and visit. All the small things that we have been putting off that we are catching up on now. We even have bought a shower curtain and a toilet seat so that the bathroom will be "usable".
Well let me promise to write again soon that I will not get so behind. Thank you all for your prayers and support. You are all a blessing to us and this ministry as well.
